In my passing glances at the artifact, I believe I understand what is happening, and what the power it is drawing from actually is. It seems this cube, an unsuspecting mass of wool, can control a fundamental certainty of the universe. The force to which all life eventually succumbs, death.
Rashem uses this seemingly absolute power for such trivial uses - crops that are unable to rot, soldiers that, even when killed, continue to rise for their cause. These are such simple understandings of what this artifact can do. What a waste.
