The Very Beginning

Upon joining Monumenta for the first time, you will be placed in a small tower in a simulated version of the first city. Here you may find a link to the Official Resource Packs, and Julia, an NPC who will explain Monumenta's basic rules, and is your gateway to the rest of the game.

To speak to Julia or the Resource Packs "head", just punch them! You will be given chat entries of their dialogue. The responses in purple are your possible options - click one of them to select it and progress the conversation in that direction.

To start playing, ask Julia how to join and she will direct you into a short and easy single-player introduction to Monumenta to begin your adventure.

Rules from Julia:

  • Be respectful of other players
  • No spamming or advertising
  • Do not post personal information or "dox" other players
  • Use profanity only in moderation
  • Public chat messages should be in English
  • No mods/hacks that give you an unfair advantage
  • For more detailed information, see our Discord: https://discord.gg/eep9qcu

Resource Pack Installation Resources:

Monumenta has resource packs that are completely optional to play the server. The texture pack adds amazing textures to Monumenta's custom items, weapons, and armor, and the music pack adds a soundtrack to many areas and bosses of the game.

Keep in mind, the texture pack REQUIRES the mod Optifine. Once installed into your resource packs folder, you will just have to enable it in your settings while using Optifine to change your view of Monumenta!

*Modded clients like Badlion may experience issues with this chat system. Disabling Fancy Fonts may help it function, but it is recommended to use the conventional Minecraft client.

The Mysterious Temple

You then wake up in a mysterious temple. You are informed that this is a short tutorial and no loot acquired in it carries over into the rest of the game.

As you progress, you are introduced to several basic but important aspects of Monumenta's gameplay. These include:

  • Chests in dangerous areas contain useful, semi-randomized loot to take.
  • Almost all the game is in Survival mode. Blocks can be both removed and placed.
  • Mob Spawners should be broken with a pickaxe to disable them. (After 20 spawns, a Spawner's mobs stop dropping loot, so using them as grinders is not practical long-term.)
  • Some Mob Spawners are placed on bedrock, and cannot be destroyed. Lighting up the area around them is a valid way to disable most of them.
  • Some chests and areas are trapped. Careful observation of the surrounding area can help players avoid these.
  • Monumenta has custom enchantments on some items. When a new mechanic is introduced, players get an advancement tied to it, which is explained in the "Handbook" section of their advancements list.

Upon reaching the end of the temple and claiming your prize from the large chest in the atrium, you are ambushed by the Masked Man, who attacks and knocks you out.

Waking Up in Sierhaven

2020-06-27 12.27.17.png

You wake up in Sierhaven, the capital of The King's Valley. Congratulations! You are now in the full game with everyone else. Essentially everything from here on is multiplayer.

Nurse Deirdre will speak to you and give you some context of your circumstances, as well as a Quest Compass, an extremely useful tool that serves as both your quest journal and waypoint system.

Right-click with it in your main hand to scroll through your current quest objectives in that region, and left-click to view the currently selected one. The compass needle will point to your currently-selected objective.

Your First Choices

As you leave Dierdre's office and are welcomed to the server, you begin with the "Tutorial" Quest, which will lead you to Captain Murano, a soldier in the Sierhaven Castle to the North. It is advised that you follow this quest to completion, as it provides you with starting gear, directs you to the first dungeon, and lets you choose a player Class.

Alternatively, Sierhaven is a large, open city with many important characters, locations, and services. Exploring it thoroughly and acquainting yourself with it is a wise move to start.

However, there is nothing technically stopping you from venturing out on your own initiative. Sierhaven is just one of several cities in the first region of the game, and there is tons to find beyond its borders. Most of the Valley lies to the East, though there is adventure to the found in any direction out of Sierhaven!

The Tutorial

If you choose the recommended path of following the Tutorial quest, head up to Captain Murano in Sierhaven Castle just North of Dierdre's office. Your compass and a particle trail will lead you there. Murano will task you with saving the castle from saboteurs and direct you to Sir Reginald in the basement.

Head downstairs to speak to Sir Reginald, who will bring you into the lobby for the first dungeon - the Alchemy Labs. It is important to read all the information in here on how dungeons work in Monumenta. You will be given a free key for your first time accessing the Labs, and are tasked with completing the dungeon.

If you want to play the Alchemy Labs with another player, you MUST either join each other's existing instance or open a new one together. If you have each opened separate instances of the dungeon, you cannot play it together until the next weekly update (around Midnight EST on Thursdays)

Upon joining the Labs for the first time, you will be placed in a room where you may select a simplified version of one of 3 basic classes - Mage, Warrior, Scout. Classes can be changed for free later, so don't worry about the permanence of this decision. After that you will be sent to the dungeon to complete it.

The Alchemy Labs

The objective of the Alchemy Labs is to find and destroy a cache of explosives. You will find them in the Explosives Lab somewhere in the dungeon. After destroying them, a path to the end will open up in the main room. Progress along it to do battle with a miniboss* and claim victory!

Upon completion, all players will be sent to their own individual reward room where they will meet up with Sir Reginald for a debrief.

*Most dungeons do not end with boss fights.

Triumphant Return

Sir Reginald commends your valor, rewarding you and ending the Tutorial quest. He suggests you go to the Academy to the South and speak to Sybil, who will direct you to pick your full class now. From here, it is advised to investigate various quests in Sierhaven for basic supplies and services, or starting the main quest at Vargos, near the top of the Academy.

Sierhaven in a Nutshell

Some of the most important features in Sierhaven for a new player to know about:

  • The City Guide NPC in the square at the center of the city gives basic supplies, a map, and other basic services.
  • The Quest Guide NPC in the city square can list the currently available quests in that city.
  • There are Ender Chests in many notable locations throughout Monumenta, including every city. These serve as safe storage that can be accessed from anywhere.
  • The Teleporter Hub tower in the Southwest corner of the city square allows you to access many locations throughout the game once you have discovered them. On its top floor is Arcmage Cinevra, who gives a very useful starting quest that directs you to your Ender Chest Expansions.
  • Outside the Teleporter Hub are several "heads" that can be punched to get links to important external resources (Resource Pack, Youtube, Patreon, live map, etc.)
  • On the ground floor of the Apartments building to the West is a vendor who gives Ender Chest Expansions. These three shulker boxes only function in your ender chest, and can be opened with a right-click when in your Ender Chest inventory. Effectively quadrupling your Ender Chest's storage space.
  • The Academy to the South has several noteworthy features:
    • Player Reset (ground floor, West side)
    • Class selection (ground floor, West side)
    • Archmage Vargos, who begins Mage's Legacy, the beginning of the main storyline of Monumenta (second-from-top floor)
    • Repair stations to spend levels to restore the durability of any piece of custom Monumenta gear (ground floor, East side)
    • NPC to restore Shattered gear to a usable state (ground floor, East side)
    • Selling stations to turn Tiered gear into currency (ground floor, East side)
    • Fragmenting stations to turn Rare and Artifact gear into their respective fragments (ground floor, East side)
  • A ship in the docks to the West will take you to the Plots world, where you can use a key (bought from the City Planner in the Castle for 64 cxp after you have done enough quests) to buy your own spot to build a house. You can teleport to the Plots world from the Sierhaven Teleport Hub after discovering it conventionally.
