The 7th King of Narsen, King Johannes III oversaw a period of both might & growth for the Empire, founding the village of Lowtide & overseeing a period of peace. The peace was shattered in 110 AV when Calder, a member of the Mage's Council, turned traitor & murdered 4 of the other Mages on the Council before fleeing into the wilderness. The King nearly closed the Mage Council permanelty after the attack but the survivors--Valgus, Cinerva, Bihavari--managed to convince him not to & rebuilt the now diminished Council. The stress of this sudden betrayal is believed to have inspired his otherwise premature death.
