Lore

Vargos Fjordson was a student of the mage academy, and the younger brother of Valgus Fjordson, the Archmage. He became good friends with Selari Ignos, a researcher from the Celsian Congress, after Selari joined the Mage Council. In 103 AV, he was appointed to the High Council of Mages by Valgus, and in 110 AV, he helped decipher a spell which led the Council to the King's Valley Monument. The council agreed to hide the Monument from the public, but Vargos' adoptive nephew Calder disagreed. After finding the Black Wool in the Black Willows, he used its power to slaughter the entire mage council, killing his adoptive father Valgus in the process. After the attack, Selari placed Valgus' burnt skull on Vargos' desk, angering Vargos and ending the pair's friendship. Selari left to the Celsian Isles to pursue his own goals.

5 years later, a mysterious individual was found in the Temple to Kaul, who then cleared a group of bandits out of the Alchemy Labs. This individual, the player, was sent to Vargos, who sent them to the nearby Mage Tower to find some notes regarding the Blackroot Jungle that had been stolen by High Mage Ezariah many years ago. The player returned with some notes written in Tlaxan, so Vargos sent them to a translator named Armece in the swamp. The player returned with some now encrypted notes, so Vargos gave up on translating them and left it to the player. He then explained to them what Calder did 5 years ago. The encrypted notes ended up being clues on how to enter the Black Willows.

Later, the player returned to Vargos with a dark curse placed upon them by the Sons of the Forest. Vargos cleared this curse and explained that it was designed to summon a Genius Loci and bind it to the caster's will.

He sent his apprentice Soran to Mistport to help the player out after they were attacked by the Masked there, but Soran was assassinated by two assassins from Alnera and Nightroost who were hired by Xeno to frame the other Celsian governments. Izzy contacted Vargos to come to the Celsian Isles. Upon his arrival, he cast a spell to teleport the player and their crew out of an encounter with Calder, saving their lives. After this, the player became the captain of Mistport.

Next, Vargos requested that the player go to Frostgate and Alnera to investigate the details of the war between Chillwind and Ishnir. After this investigation is completed, Vargos requests that the player allies with one of the two nations. This choice is up to the player. Shortly after, Vargos attended a meeting in Mistport that the player created to gather information on the Celsian governments. Not long after that, the player investigated a survivor from the destruction of the Celsian Congress named Lyson, who was then murdered in the Alnera palace. Vargos met the player after this incident and explained that he believed Calder to be in control of the governments of Ishnir and Chillwind, a theory which would turn out to be true.

Quite some time later, Vargos was contemplating what to do about the recently released Teal Spirit, alongside Bhairavi and others. The player then revealed that they had met two Silver Knights, as well as the spirit of the Crimson Wool. After some debate, Vargos requests that the player bring the Crimson King back to the Isles. After the player had finished with the Teal Spirit at the Celsian Isles Monument, they returned to Vargos and explained what to do next. Vargos then requested to meet the Crimson King, though he never got a chance to do so before Vaessini was placed back into a wool alongside the Teal spirit.
